At Fort Thompson Sporting Goods, every team member brings unique skills, stories, and passions to the table. This month, weโre excited to introduce John Huntley, one of the cornerstone members of our family. Letโs dive into his journey and what makes him such a valued part of the Fort Thompson team.
Meet John Huntley
Whatโs your name, and whatโs your role here at Fort Thompson?
Iโm John Huntley, and I work at the Pistol/Tactical Counter.
How long have you been part of the Fort Thompson family?
As of January 12, Iโve been here for an incredible 10 years straight!
Whatโs your favorite thing about working here?
Iโd have to say messing with the guns and getting a first look at all the new gear that comes through our doors.
Life Outside the Counter
When youโre outside, whatโs your go-to activityโhunting, fishing, or something else?
It used to be hunting, but these days Iโve shifted gears. Iโm big into hiking and weightlifting now.
Do you have a favorite product in the store that you swear by?
Absolutely! Sig handguns are my go-to.
Whatโs one piece of advice youโd give to someone just starting out with hunting or exploring the outdoors?
Research, plan, and practice. Map out trails, and dress appropriately for the conditions. Most importantly, involve your kids in the experience. Itโs a great way to create lifelong memories.
A Memorable Adventure
Can you share your most unforgettable outdoor adventure?
One of my favorite memories is a hunting trip with my dad. We were trying to find my land in the dark after years of not being there. It was colder than we expected, and we werenโt dressed for it. My dad wanted to leave for breakfast, but I convinced him to wait a few more minutes. Suddenly, we saw deer crashing over the ridge. I managed to take a running shot with my old .280 Remington Woodsmaster and brought down a 7-point buck. My dad followed with a perfect shot on a doe with his .280 Remington Woodmaster, and then I made another running shot at a third deer. In less than 30 seconds, we had three deer. Itโs a story we still laugh about today.
Dreaming Big
If you could plan the ultimate outdoor trip anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Iโd love to hunt Red Stag in Scotland. Itโs where my ancestors are from, so it would be a meaningful experience.
Whatโs something fun or surprising about you that most people donโt know?
Iโm originally from New Hampshire, the Live Free or Die State! Proud to be a Yankee!
Outside of Fort Thompson
When youโre not here at Fort Thompson, what do you like to do for fun?
I enjoy spending quality time with my wife, attending church, and taking our furbabies on runs and walks. In my spare time, I also love lifting weights.
