Employee Spotlight: Kim Elmore – The Gatekeeper of Fort Thompson

She’s been keeping this place running like a well-oiled machine, and trust us, she’s seen it all.

So, Kim, what’s your favorite thing about working here?

"All the different characters that walk through this door."

And she’s not kidding. If there were a reality show based on the customers of Fort Thompson, Kim would have enough material for at least ten seasons. From folks decked out in full camo in July to the ones who come in “just to look” but leave with a cart full of gear—she’s seen every kind of outdoorsman (and woman) imaginable.

When you’re outside, what’s your go-to activity—hunting, fishing, or something else?

"I like biking and hiking."

That’s right. While some of us are out in duck blinds at the crack of dawn, Kim is off tackling trails and proving that cardio is, in fact, a thing.

Do you have a favorite product in the store that you swear by?

"Anything YETI. I’m a YETI girl through and through."

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone just starting out with hunting or exploring the outdoors?

"Be sure to stay hydrated! It’s incredibly important."

Can you share your most unforgettable outdoor adventure?

"I got halfway up Pinnacle Mountain and thought I was going to die. Luckily, I got used to it, and the view was phenomenal."

If you could plan the ultimate outdoor trip anywhere in the world, where would you go?

"Hiking in Ireland. I would love to do that. My friend used to go and post pictures; it’s gorgeous over there."

What’s something fun or surprising about you that most people don’t know?

"That I love to sing."
