If you've stepped foot in Fort Thompson Sporting Goods in the last eight and a half years, there's a solid chance you've encountered Kim Elmore—our head cashier, our front-line defense against incorrect change, and the unshakable force behind the counter. She’s been keeping this place running like a well-oiled machine, and trust us, she’s seen it all.
So, Kim, what’s your favorite thing about working here?
"All the different characters that walk through this door."
And she’s not kidding. If there were a reality show based on the customers of Fort Thompson, Kim would have enough material for at least ten seasons. From folks decked out in full camo in July to the ones who come in “just to look” but leave with a cart full of gear—she’s seen every kind of outdoorsman (and woman) imaginable.
When you’re outside, what’s your go-to activity—hunting, fishing, or something else?
"I like biking and hiking."
That’s right. While some of us are out in duck blinds at the crack of dawn, Kim is off tackling trails and proving that cardio is, in fact, a thing.
Do you have a favorite product in the store that you swear by?
"Anything YETI. I’m a YETI girl through and through."
If it keeps things cold (or hot) and has a YETI logo on it, Kim approves. Whether it’s a tumbler that makes your coffee feel fresh 10 hours later or a cooler that could probably survive an apocalypse, she’s got it and swears by it.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone just starting out with hunting or exploring the outdoors?
"Be sure to stay hydrated! It’s incredibly important."
You heard her. Nothing ruins a day outside faster than dehydration. So grab that Kim-approved YETI bottle, fill it up, and stay hydrated, folks.
Can you share your most unforgettable outdoor adventure?
"I got halfway up Pinnacle Mountain and thought I was going to die. Luckily, I got used to it, and the view was phenomenal."
Kim’s perseverance paid off, but let this be a reminder to all: before attempting a hike that sounds “fun,” just know that halfway points can feel like life-or-death situations.
If you could plan the ultimate outdoor trip anywhere in the world, where would you go?
"Hiking in Ireland. I would love to do that. My friend used to go and post pictures; it’s gorgeous over there."
Rolling green hills, dramatic cliffs, and plenty of trails to conquer—sounds like a dream trip for someone who almost let Pinnacle Mountain win.
What’s something fun or surprising about you that most people don’t know?
"That I love to sing."
So, if you ever hear a voice echoing through the aisles of Fort Thompson, it’s probably Kim belting out a tune while ringing up your order. Consider it a free concert with your purchase.
When you’re not here at Fort Thompson, what do you like to do for fun?
"I love to chill at home with my hubs and watch true crime shows."
Because nothing says “relaxation” like analyzing unsolved mysteries and crime scenes. If you ever see Kim taking notes while watching Dateline, don’t ask questions—just assume she’s keeping Fort Thompson extra safe.
So next time you stop by, give a nod to Kim—she’s the one making sure your checkout process runs smoothly, your hydration game is strong, and your Fort Thompson experience is top-tier.
